The Vine

18″ x 24″ Acrylic Original on Canvas

“He is the vine.  We, as branches, will produce fruit if we abide (make our home) in Him.  Assuming we are grapes, we can remain just that; simple grapes.  However, it we allow God to take us through the necessary crushing process, He will turn our simple flavor into something exquisite and far more complex–like the finest and most expensive wine.  But He cannot achieve this unless we are willing to allow Him to crush us.
It’s an awful process to endure.  The crushing is nothing we desire.  Even Jesus asked His Father to remove the cup from Him it it was His will.  And yet the Father did not grant His own sinless and perfect son that wish, because it was necessary for Jesus to go through the crushing in order to be made into something far more glorious–the King of Kings!
How much more we; the sinful creatures that we are, will most likely be made to go through our own crushings.  Not because God takes pleasure in watching us suffer, but instead, as a vintner of a winery anticipating the outcome of the crushing of the grapes, so God anticipates the exceptional flavor we will become.  And as a vintner knows which year the grapes are best, therefore yielding a much more superb wine, so God know which year you have been made ripe unto harvest and the subsequent crushing process.  Will you allow God to take you from a simple grape and transform you into something far more refined and superb?”
